Performing urgent transformer repairs at a wind farm in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia.
Background:
Gullen Range Wind Farm is a wind farm in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia.
Owned by BJCE Australia and operated by Goldwind Australia, the farm consists of 73 wind turbines and produces up to 165.5MW of renewable power in ideal wind conditions. On an average day, the farm produces enough energy to power in excess of 70,000 average Australian homes.
Solution:
Following the identification of major oil leaks within one of the transformers at Gullen Range Wind Farm, resulting in a generation shutdown, Goldwind Australia contacted our transformer service team.
The team responded quickly and were able to repair the transformer and replace approximately 250 litres of oil that had leaked, all whilst working in challenging, below zero weather conditions that included snow and heavy rainfall.
To remove moisture from the oil, facilitate core winding and create a vacuum to seal the transformer, our service team used the top of the range Oil Heat and De-gas Machine E2000.

Within 16 hours of the Ampcontrol transformer service team’s arrival to site, the transformer was operational again, allowing the client to recommence operations with minimal downtime.
